2010 Final Day.

It is this time of year again, the final day of 2010.

There is indeed quite a lot of interesting things that had happened in my life. Just for reminiscence, among the notable ones are undergoing my semester industrial training at a nice company - Integricity and meeting all the colleagues that working there.

I must say that one of the major things that I had purchased for this year is none other than my powerful gaming i7 rig. Well I only bought it as my laptop GPU had died on me after serving me a faithful 3 years. Every now and then I would need to bake it (yes, literally) in an oven just to 'resurrect' it should the same problem happen again. Come to think of it, the rig really costs a bomb yet it is really a worth purchase. I never need to concern about the numbers of program I open. I think it's better to put it this way, everything related to PC performance is nothing of a concern except electricity. Yes, the i7 and the 5870 certainly drained up quite some power but I managed to keep it at minimal using various power saving mode. But I'm not a bragging person, except when I am being asked about it. xD

Well I guess that's wrapped it out. Below are among the things that I had done and learned:

- Garmin Developer for voice content and POI.
- Learning various computer troubleshooting at client place, e.g. backup, server installation and migration, web hosting package, etc..
- Customizing mods for games like RE5 and GTA4.
- PC Overclocking and benchmarking.
- Latest CPU and GPU specification.
- folding.
- Playing video in 60 FPS using morphing technique.
- Movie critique :-D

I would say that I had become a more better person that I am before. Hopefully 2011 will be another great year for me to improvise myself and keep the mother earth green.

I shall come out with a 2011 wish list tomorrow. Cheers and enjoy your last day of 2010.

My Gaming Rig Stable OC @ 4.0 GHz on AIR

Just something to brag, I finally managed to OC my i7 950 stable at 4.0 GHz using the following settings. Now I can open 8 folding instances instead of 6. More score for me.

However, the core temps seemed a bit high at full load when I'm doing folding. Not quite I expected from Venomous X. A dual Arctic fans will helped but I will only buying it should the temps reaches over 80 Celcius.

Can't complaint much about the Windows Score though, HDD part as I'm just using traditional mechanical disk.

Updated thought on my purchase for Nexus One

Before I proceed further, it is suffice to say that if I haven't heard of HTC Desire I would have owning Nexus One (N1) by now.

Here's some features offered by Desire which could not been found on N1:

HTC Sense UI (updated with Android 2.1)
I couldn't resist the elegant and simplified look of Sense UI by HTC. Every menu is accessible easily and it really make Android 2.1 shine. Personally I like the dial pad white-ish skin and the bottom screen menu (<>). It will definitely make me easier to call someone without needing to go to the home screen and click on the Phone app.

Although it's just a matter of time before someone will port the Sense UI ROM over N1, it's just feels good to own a Desire as it's the native ROM. Definitely great for Android beginner like me who doesn't want to void the warranty by rooting and flashing the ROM.

Physical accessible button at the bottom of the device
N1 had several issue with it's non-responsive touch sensitive button located at the bottom of the screen. Some user claimed that one will need to tap upper middle from those button for the tap to be detected. I do prefer physical button as it provide me a tactile feel like I had actually press on something.

RAM (576MB over 512 MB)
Now that's 64MB difference. Don't think that it's just a small amount of RAM. Those 64MB could determine the performance of your phone when running multiple app on the background.

FM Radio Transmitter
Well I seldom listening to radio but I suppose it might comes in handy for some people without the need to purchase any additional FM transmitter.

Optical touch button
HTC claimed that it should provide more accurate pinpointing while using it compared to N1 physical trackball. I do prefer it as it won't attract dust after prolonged use compared to the trackball.

Now here's what N1 got and Desire lack:

Growing LED on the trackball
The LED will grow in different color based on several different notification such as unread SMS message, unread email and miss calls. Nothing big deal for me as I won't be paying much attention to it while it's on my pocket anyway. Notification sound would suffice.

1 noise-canceling mic
Too bad Desire is lacking it. Perhaps the built-in primary mic on Desire could perform noise-canceling effect as well as processing voice?

Conclusion
Well after watching several videos and reading some reviews about N1 and Desire, I guess I would definitely wait for HTC Desire. March/April shouldn't be farther away from now isn't it?

Question 1 Sample for my programming exam

Yesterday is the day where I took my first semester Programming examination. I'm so frustrated because I didn't manage to complete a question which I INDEED know how to do if given more time and a more relaxing environment.

Anyways, I just finished the code for question 1 which I only managed to do erm, say 3/4 quarter?

This is a code prepared and completed by me, you may have different approaches though.

Matriculation

For a boy who dislike outdoor activities and cherish the phrase "home sweet home" such as myself, going for a Pre-U lifetstyle means parting with my closest friends and family.

Yes, like MOST people who appealed for entry in matriculation, I'm currently feeling nervous yet exciting right now. Nervous because I do not know what lies ahead of my path ; exciting because I can finally try to live on my own, without relying on my mom and dad.

As you can see, or probably not if you haven't view my profile yet, my hometown is in Segamat, Johor. And guess what? I got an offer to matric at Penang - KMPP (Kolej Matrikulasi Pulau Pinang)! Consider the distance which will take approx. 7 to 9 hours of car journey, going there is also a problem. In fact, I had hear comments from people saying that KMPP is one of the best matriculation center available in our country if compared with other. I don't know whether this is true, or not. However, I do agree that living in a duty free country and a country far from my hometown will definitely increase my experience by a TON.

When it comes to living outside by your own, friend is indeed played an important role. Based on this fact, I hope I will manage to find some good friends when being there. Since there is only 10% of chinese students there, I think the odd for me to live with my another 3 roommates (malay) will probably higher than living with Chinese. I'm not a person that is race discrimination. It's just... Well, it will be quite comfortable if your roommates is with the same races as you did, don't you think so too?

By the way, wish me luck ya? I'm going for KMPP due 29th May 2007. It's kinda rush for me though. Thought I can enjoy my 2 weeks of holiday. Well, guess it's fate!

Form 6 and reminiscence from the memories

The day has finally come. After 4 months of hibernating, I finally get to school today, to study for Form 6. Quite frankly though, I do not expect myself to study in the same school when I was in Form 5. Yet things works rather different in reality, where we must prepare for the impossible. Sometimes thing may not end up just as we thought.

Reason why I'm in Form 6? It's quite obvious isn't it? I did not get an offer to go for matriculation. In fact, only 3 students in my school - SMK Paduka Tuan get the chances to further their studies there. As we all know, results in SPM doesn't really matter. They just choose the students randomly and of course, giving the main priority for the bumiputera (couldn't figure the English term for this).

Besides matriculation, I had also apply for the JPA scholarship and I actually got an offer for JPA interview. However, I did not go for it. When I told this great oppurtunity to my fellow friends and relative, the answer will always be a tie - Such a waste! So why did I turned in down at the first place? It's rather shame for me to state my reason here but I'll mention it anyways, it's a blog ya? Firstly, I lack of self-confidence and one can hardly hear me speak English in the public. I just couldn't. Speaking of public speaking and self-confidence, I'm also afraid of the MUET (Malaysian University English Test) which require all Form 6 students to sit for. I have this thought for a long time, after I receive the offer. The students that are going for the interview will definitely speaking like a professor and possess a strong self-confidence within them. I must admit that my English speaking is rather average and I probably remain silence among the interviewers, especially since many eyes focus on me. Nowadays it's quite rare for a teenagers aged between 17-18 in Malaysia to actually do a public speaking with no fear at all. Perhaps I'm just one of them. Perhaps studying in Form 6 in the next 2 years can build my confidence at least to a few stages above.

As we all know, all Form 6 students are required to attend a week of orientation for it's a part of JPN plan. In my case, sorry, in all Form 6 students case, it started today. In a session there's been a slide show displaying the reason why we're all in Form 6. Among them are: Does not get an offer for matriculation and does not got the financial support. I just couldn't find my answer elsewhere in the screen - DESTINY. Yeah, it's my fate and destiny to be here in Form 6 and I just couldn't say why or how. It's just a part of God plans.

Challenging as it might sound to be, many top students are transfered to my school. This next two years will definitely be a harsh year for me. If there's so many competitors, I must struggle myself to join with them by studying even harder.

If only I can return to the past, I will definitely go back to the primary school, where the sweetest moment lies... -

- Without worries (only need to focus on UPSR). Whether the result good or not, one will definitely get a chance to further their studies in secondary school.
- Can always depend to the parents. Parents will always make the best choice for us, depends on their financial support. One will not need to work outdoor to earn a living. Everything we had such as clothes, toys come from the income from our parents.
- No need to plan far enough. Our parents will do the job for us
and many more...

Just imagine what will your childhood look like? Do you still prefer the adult life that you enjoy now, or perhaps...?

Have you ever being angry with your parents?

Have you ever being fed-up and angry with your parents? If you don't, you must have a great personality and patience. On the contrary, if you DO, then you're just like me and almost 99% kids in the entire world.

Whenever your parent instruct (I prefer the 'instruct' term over 'order') you to do thing, such as mopping, cleaning or any other houseworks. Sometimes the result will not be the one that they had expected. In the end, you'll hear complains from them. Yet you didn't dare yourself to fight back or debate about what they're saying because they're far more older and much more experienced than you do. Thus, the only thing you could do is listening to their advice (they sure don't sound like advice to me, I rather called it 'scolding'). And when they have done and you walk back behind them, you'll just keep on mumbling at them. For real, I don't think any kid in the world will ever think to stab a knife at them after such incident.

However, the magical thing is - No matter how much you hate them, this hattress will eventually jump off from your mind. The next thing you knew, you'll probably end up forgiving them and begin to chat with them, apologize maybe? In fact, in Asian, it's very rare for a parent to apologize after what they had done (which is scolding) to their children as it's kinda embarrassed and may against some traditional to do so. So the best thing is 'forgive and forgave'. The power of LOVE and bond, who would have thought it will be such strong?

If you're wondering whether I'm involved in such situation or not, well I certainly did! Seriously, who wouldn't? Unless you're being adopted by a family who they torture you like their slave, you would definitely forget the revenge sooner or later. As for kids, they're usually more easy to comfort by giving them toys. However, for teenagers, it's all depend on their thinking. If they couldn't think rationally enough, they will leave the house and stay at friend house, probably for weeks, months. Who knows what teenagers would do. In fact, most teenagers would only decided to leave their houses if the parents is abusing them and they have capability to survive in solo.
